An agreement signed today between Telenor Group and Wikimedia through which Telenor customers throughout Asia and Southeastern Europe will be able to access Wekipedia.com on their phones for free mean no charges at all for browsing wekipedia.com.
You will be able to visit wekipedia.com as many times as you want when this will be implemented for Telenor customers as it will take couples of week to be implement. External links on wikipedia.com will be charged as per usual tariff.
This initiative is part of the Wikimedia Foundation’s mobile strategy, which focuses on reaching the billions of people around the world whose primary opportunity to access the Internet is via a mobile device.
This partnership supports Telenor’s commitment to bring more values to its mobile customers. Specially, the company has pioneered the development of value-adding services to rural and undeserved communities in Asia. Telenor involve millions in Asia through the I-Genius project, which has already reached out to 300,000 Bangladesh students and school-children with a call to explore open knowledge on the internet.
So with Telenor each customer who uses mobile internet will get technical solutions with Wikimedia Foundation.
