Microsoft has announced the final date to shut down Windows Live Messenger WinLiveMessengerpermanently. The final date of its shut down is March 15, 2013.

Windows Live Messenger previously known as MSN  Messenger is the one of the oldest messenger in the internet history that was launched in 1999. With the acquisition of Skype by Microsoft in May of 2011 the end of Windows Live Messenger was nigh as Skye serves to be a better revenue generating product due to its “Skype-to-Phone” feature as compared to the Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft is shifting all the exciting Windows Live Messenger users to Skype.

Windows Live Messenger was one of the popular mode of communication over the internet along with Yahoo Messenger. It is necessary to mention here that Yahoo also shut down its public chat room services on December 14, 2012.

Microsoft has provided a service that lets users migrate seamlessly from Windows Live Messenger to Skype including all their contacts. New users who signup for Windows Live Messenger services will be refused and after March 15, 2013 exciting users will not be able to login to their Windows Live Messenger.
