Responding to the devastating earthquake in Baluchistan, Telenor Pakistan has announced the contribution of PKR 22.49 million towards the relief and wellbeing of the earthquake affected people in the province. Following a need assessment and identifying focus areas in the affected region, the relief goods will be provided by Telenor Pakistan’s emergency response partner, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to 1,000 earthquake affected families in Baluchistan.

Muhammad Aslam Hayat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Telenor Pakistan expressed his solidarity with the victims of the earthquake in Baluchistan and said, “Telenor Pakistan stands with the people of Baluchistan in their time of loss and grief. Having discussed the ground realities with PRCS, we are channeling our contribution specifically for the provision of desperately needed items in the area. Telenor Pakistan is proud to have responded to the call of distress in any part of the country whenever required and this contribution is a manifestation of our corporate social responsibility and commitment to the citizens of Pakistan.

Brig (R) Dr. Mahboob Sardar, Secretary General, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) appreciated Telenor Pakistan’s timely contribution. He said, “Telenor Pakistan is continuing its legacy of rising to the occasion and responding with meaningful contribution during emergencies. As partners in emergency response and relief, we appreciate Telenor’s contribution and hope that this will also encourage other organizations to follow suit and contribute in a similar manner.”

The contribution will be utilized by PRCS to provide 7,000 individuals with medical relief, blankets and water bottles. The relief efforts will be carried out by PRCS in Tirtej and Labach of District Awaraan. Additionally, the DHQ hospital of Awaraan is also being managed by the PRCS health team and two mobile health units are providing free health facilities to different villages in Awaraan District.

As a socially responsible organization, Telenor Pakistan has always been at the forefront in terms of contributing towards relief and rehabilitation of the affectees in the wake of natural disasters. Telenor Pakistan has contributed a total of more than Rs.360 million in cash and kind since 2005/06 as part of its emergency response program.
