Jon Fredrik Baksaas, CEO & President Telenor Group and Chairman of GSMA, is in Pakistan on a two day schedule. During his visit he is expected to hold high level meetings with government officials and dignitaries to discuss the growing and evolving ecosystem of mobile telecommunication and mobile financial services in the country.

“Jon Fredrik Baksaas’ visit comes at the most opportune time as mobile operators in Pakistan are gearing up for the upcoming 3G spectrum auction and provide internet and data services to one of the largest mobile phone markets in the world. I hope his visit will help in further highlighting collective industry issues and putting forth the mobile operators’ perspectives to the government and regulatory authorities.” said Lars Christian Iuel, CEO, Telenor Pakistan.

Jon Fredrik Baksaas has been President and CEO of Telenor Group since June 2002. During this period, the total number of subscriptions in Telenor Group’s mobile operations has increased from 21 million in June 2002 to more than 160 million in 2014. Telenor Group at present has mobile operations in 12 markets.

Jon Fredrik Baksaas was recently elected by GSMA as the Chairman for the remainder of the current board term till December 2014. The GSMA represents nearly 800 mobile operators, spanning more than 220 countries and also produces industry-leading events such as Mobile World Congress and Mobile Asia Expo.
