The VimpelCom Group CEO, Jo Lunder is visiting Pakistan to discuss future business prospects as the telecommunication sector enters a new phase of growth and development.  During his visit, Jo Lunder met with the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Minister of State for IT and Telecom Ms. Anusha Rahman, Chairman PTA Syed Ismail Shah and senior management of Mobilink, and shared Group’s vision for the region and reaffirmed its long term commitment to Pakistan. Earlier in 2012, VimpelCom committed to heavy investments in Pakistan which paved the way for introducing next generation mobile services in the country.

Continuing with a positive outlook on its operations in Pakistan, Mobilink’s parent company VimpelCom has invested USD 4.3 billion in the country till date. This investment has been utilized at various fronts to ensure the best Customer Experience for Mobilink customers and has consolidated its leadership position in Pakistan with the deployment of a state-of-the-art next-generation mobile network.

Jo Lunder re-affirmed VimpelCom’s commitment to the country during his meetings with the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan; he said, “VimpelCom is committed to Pakistan and Mobilink as it joins a growing number of global cellular networks that are thriving on the use of 3G/4G technologies. We compliment the government on this progressive step and hope that all measures will be taken to enable the telecom sector to provide affordable, quality voice and data services in Pakistan leading to a stable and sustainable economy.”

Jo Lunder’s visit to Pakistan follows a recent meeting with Minister of State for IT & Telecom, Ms. Anusha Rehman during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2014. Both the Minister and the VimpelCom Group CEO had a discussion on the future of the telecom industry and the potential for new opportunities in the market.
