What are the skyscrapers of the future that will soon tower over the world’s cities? Super towers are being built at breathtaking speed, especially in the emerging markets where we can observe a high commitment on growing cities vertically and closer to the sky. Pakistan’s best real estate website, Lamudi.pk has compiled a list of the highest buildings under construction in the emerging markets.

1. Kingdom Tower, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:

The Kingdom Tower will break the one kilometer threshold upon completion, cementing its place as the tallest building in the world. The building is set to steal the crown from Dubai’s 828m-tall Burj Khalifa. The new king of the super towers will have 167 floors, 439 apartments and 200 hotel rooms. Construction is set to end in 2018 and the preliminary costs are USD 1.23 billion.

2. KL118 Tower, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:

Only one year later, in 2019, this super building is scheduled for completion with a height of 635 meters. It will be the tallest building in Malaysia and the sixth tallest in the world. KL118 Tower will be a huge office building with residential housing and shopping complexes in Kuala Lumpur, the national capital of Malaysia.

3. Wuhan Greenland Center, Wuhan, China:

The Wuhan Greenland Center will stretch 636 meters high and has plenty of eco-friendly credentials. It is designed to be aerodynamic and therefore makes the most of winds that usually cause problems to these towers. Architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Jill created the shape that gathers the wind and air around the building, which has a cooling and even heating effect.

4. Peruri 88, Jakarta, Indonesia:

Peruri 88 will be about 400 meters high and function as a vertical city in the overcrowded capital Jakarta. There will be green spaces with planted trees, amphitheaters and athletic fields on several rooftop sections.

5. Lotte World Tower, Seoul, South Korea:

In Seoul, this 555 meter high super tower is nearing completion in 2016. The Lotte World Tower will accommodate 123 floors above ground level, six below, 260 hotel rooms, offices, retail outlets and even an observation deck.
