Fair 3G Auction Promised by Prime Minister | InfoZonePK

On February 23rd, The Head and Chief Officers (CEOs) of the PTCL, Zong, Warid, Telenor and Mobilink called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM’s House Islamabad.

They apprised him that the telecom sector was contributing about Rs. 110 billion in the national exchaquer as tax and was providing jobs opportunities to millions of young Pakistanis directly and indirectly, said a statement issued by PM House.

CEOs informed the PM that the total foreign investment in the telecom sector was $10 billion.

The PM said that Govt. would ensure fair competition in the auction of 3G spectrum technology n a transparent manner.

The PM directed the Ministry of Finance and Federal Board of Revenue to hold meetings with Telecom Companies and rationalize the taz regime keeping in view the interests of the industry and the customers at the same time.

Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheik, Adviser to PM on Finance, assured the Telecom Companies that a mutually acceptable formula would be worked out keeping in view the commercial considerations of the industry as well as the imperatives of the telecom market in a competitive environment.
