Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhary has directed PTA to bring an immediate halt to illegal sale of mobile phone SIMs in Balochistan.

In this regard, CJP ordered to practice the mechanism through which only one SIM could be issued against a single CNIC in Baluchistan Province. CJP ordered the Deputy Attorney General to ask all the cellular companies for holding a combines meeting today for figuring out such a mechanism. He further said, “If any cellular company does not comply with the direction for resolving security issues in the province, its licence will be cancelled.”

Despite of PTA’s various initiatives, sale of illegall SIMs has not come to an end. Under the law, customer is allowed to keep 10 different SIMs against a single CNIC.

Analysts believe, if such practice is adopted later in other provinces, the exiting official number of total mobile phone SIMs will come down considerably which is 18 million at the moment.

Last week, Chief Justice of Pakistan had ordered Chairman PTA to monitor all the TV commercials of cellular companies. He pointed out they certain TV Ads of cellular companies are morally weak and anti-society, therefore, they should be stopped from being aired.
