Mozilla’s HTML 5 based Boot 2 Gecko is getting traction with Alcatel and ZTE jumping on the bandwagon to produce the first ever device running the mobile OS.

At MWC 2012 Mozilla announced the first ever Boot 2 Gecko devices are goingto launch in Brazil by the carrier Vivo Now, the project has been backed up globally and carriers suchas Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smar, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, and Telenor are also to start offering devices.

Furthermore, all Boot 2 Gecko project continues to attract partners with this speed, it may become a real player in the mobile OS scene. But to hang with the big boys. it’ll first need to get mature enough and launch some powerful Boot 2 Gecko smartphones  to go with a strong application marketplace.

For now, it seems Mozilla are focusing oin the former and the very first device will be targeting the entry-level market. We have to wait and see until early 2013 when the first handsets are expected to hit the market.
