Zong and Huawei Established State-of-the-Art GSM Lab at NUST | InfoZonePK

Zong – the international brand of China Mobile, and Huawei – a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider have established a state-of-the-art GSM Lab and training center at National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad to liaison with the telecom industry’s needs by creating a bridge between the academia and the corporate world.

With the expertise of China Mobile Pakistan and Huawei’s investment of US$ 1.3 million in hardware, the GSM Lab will be providing exposure and hands-on experience of operating high-tech GSM equipments which can be used as platform for further Research and Development (R&D) for Value Added Services (VAS).

This lab is to be used for study purposes; the lab is a complete telephone network including a GSM mobile infrastructure with one MSC, one BSC and on BTS, HLR and media gateway.

The lab will also provide the platform for development of software, tools and patches to remove discrepancies. It will familiarize students with the fault, configuration, security, network performance management to telecom infrastructure.

Mr. Fan Yunjun, CEO, Zong said that the GSM Lab created by Zong is fundamental part of their corporate social reprehensibility as helping young people access quality technological education will lay the foundation of cultivating talent necessary  for the advancement of industry and development in Pakistan.

Speaking at the launch Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Liu Jian said “I am pleased to learn that Zong has initiated such a marvellous project to help the talented students accomplish their goals. And with HUAWEI’s laudable investment of 1.3 million dollars, I am confident that this lab is furnished with the latest technology where students will be able to gain experience related to particular application of communication standards.”

He further added, “Moreover, Zong’s and HUAWEI’s efforts do not only represent promotion of technological education; they also symbolize the commitment of China to Pakistan.

Zong is China Mobile’s first venture outside of China. China Mobile has made the largest investment among all the Chinese investment in Pakistan and is considered an emissary of friendship between Pakistan and China.
