Freelancer – The world’s largest Outsourcing website has launched in Pakistan with a specific PK domain name as Freelancer.PK with the aim to produce and increase the Freelancing and outsources in the country.
This move by Freelancer is explained by the fact that Pakistan ranks third in terms of membership with around 240,000 members (both freelancers and employers) with combined earnings of a whopping US$ 13.5 million as reported by the online outsourcing website.
Evan Tan, Freelancer.com’s Regional Director for Asia has quoted saying on the event of the launch:
“Pakistan internet users showed double digit growth in the last five years. And with the rapid growth of self-employment in Pakistan, this is a great time for members of the site to take advantage of the ongoing digitization trend that has been changing the landscape of the global marketplace.”
It is a good initiative in Pakistan to start such freelancing website as employment is one of the major problem in Pakistan. According to facts the self-employed Pakistanis surged from 33.3% to 39.9% in last three years (2009 to 2012) – this was faster than the employee category growth, which only grew from 35.8% to 36%. The growth of self-employment was joined by the rise of Internet, which has shown double-digit growth in the past five years.
Graduates can utilize this channel of freelancing to become self-employment . They can earn a lot by offering service to off-shore clients through freelancing channel.
