Telenor‘s and one of the popular Pakistan’s telecom industry’s youth brand, Djuice has launched Apportunity 2014 to promote local app developers.

This is a campaign by which all the students or software developers can participate and create mobile phone apps.

This year, djuice has partnered with Microsoft to help bring the competition to the Windows Phone platform besides the already popular Google Android and Apple iOS platforms.

Microsoft is also supporting djuice to reach major university incubation centres in order to encourage quality app submissions. Moreover, with the support of Pakistan Software House Association (P@SHA), for the first time, djuice is opening the competition to software houses, as well.

The brand team will be visiting universities all across Pakistan to conduct mentoring sessions in order for users to interact with industry experts and refine their app ideas.

While sharing his delight, Farid Ahmed, Director Marketing, Telenor Pakistan said, “Over the years, Apportunity has become the most sought-after platform for the emerging app developers to showcase their creativity and talent in the mobile application market. Through this contest, we intend to provide opportunities to the young talent to bring innovation and creativity and enable them to have a significant share in the global mobile application market.We expect that Apportunity, besides being an exciting contest, will present innovative ideas to drive our ambition of bringing internet for all,” he added.

The winner of the competition will grab an opportunity to present their app at the Digital Winners Global App Developer Challenge 2014 in Oslo, Norway and will get a chance to win a grand cash prize of $33,000, in case the participant does not win at the event, djuice Pakistan will give them a consolation of Rs. 200,000 worth of prizes.The runner-up in Pakistan will also receive Rs.200,000worth of prizes.

The contest has also introduced a new category – Best Internet App – whose winner will get Rs. 100,000 worth of prizes. djuice will also award Nokia Lumia handsets and internships at Microsoft Innovation Centre Pakistan to the winners of each category.

The competition has 10 distinct categories for app submission, such as business, entertainment, sports, utilities etc.

The deadline for entries is July 10, 2014, while app submission will be entertained till August and the winner will be announced by the end of August.

Terms & Conditions:

  • Only those submissions will be deemed valid for which the entire source code, including graphic assets and third-party libraries utilized in its creation, are handed over to Telenor by the competition’s specified deadline.
  • All intellectual property and assets (ideas, prototypes, source code, applications and graphic works) submitted under this competition shall become the sole property of Telenor, and submitter grants Telenor all rights to utilize such assets as Telenor may deem fit for commercial and/or non-commercial purposes, including but not limited to sale and resale, repackaging and re-use, advertising and promotion, and licensing and reselling.
  • The submitter may not share or make available to any other entity (a person, corporate entity, or medium for sharing files) the assets utilized in the submitted works.
  • In the event that a third party lays claim to the intellectual property and/or assets submitted under this competition, the submitter shall bear complete legal responsibility for the violation(s) of copyrights, patents and likeliness. In the event such a claim is ascertained to be true and the submission is not deemed the original work of the submitter, the submitter shall be disqualified from the competition and all their submissions shall be deemed invalid.
  • Telenor may, at its discretion, adapt the submission for different operating systems, platforms, and devices.
  • Telenor, as owner of these assets, shall have exclusive rights to publish and sell these assets on any catalog, marketplace or distribution channel, including but not limited to Apple Store, Google Play Store, Nokia Store, Windows Phone+Apps Store, Samsung Apps, Handango, Amazon App Store and GetJar. The submitter shall not publish works that may be deemed competitive to the submission for a period of 1 year (12 months) on any catalog, marketplace or distribution channel.
  • Where a submission may contain an element of revenue generation (through in-app purchases, advertising display, referral marketing, sale of the app itself, or any other mechanism), Telenor may, at its sole discretion, offer to the submitter a share of the revenue, on terms determined by Telenor. Telenor is not obligated, under any circumstances, to offer a submitter such an arrangement, nor shall submitter lay claim to a share of revenues following submission to this competition.
