Aimed at extending relief and assistance to the flood affectees of Gilgit Baltistan, Telenor Pakistan has announced a contribution of over PKR 20 million. Following the need assessment of the affected areas to determine the unmet needs of the victims, the relief goods are being provided by Telenor Pakistan’s emergency response partner, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to over 268 flood affected families.
The contribution is being utilized by PRCS to provide over 1,876 individuals with nonfood items including shelter, blankets, solar lamps, stoves etc. Food items being distributed mostly consist of dry ration parcels packed with nutrition. As part of the relief efforts, four mobile healthcare units have also been stationed at different locations to provide basic medical aid to the flood affectees as well as to prevent any outbreak of disease in the flood-hit areas.
Muhammad Aslam Hayat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Telenor Pakistan expressed his solidarity with the flood victims of Gilgit Blatistan and said, “Telenor Pakistan stands with the people of Gilgit Baltistan in their time of loss and grief. Having discussed the ground realities with PRCS, we are channeling our contribution specifically for the provision of desperately needed items in the area. Telenor Pakistan is proud to have responded to the call of distress in any part of the country whenever required and this contribution is a manifestation of our corporate social responsibility and commitment to the citizens of Pakistan.”
Besides provision of the basic necessities, flood related information has also been disseminated to the victims at frequent intervals via approximately 30.5 million early warning SMS.
