Superior University has altered the current academic patterns by initiating an immensely innovative teaching pedagogy which involves ‘Entrepreneurship’ into the curriculum. Chairman Superior Group, Dr. Chaudhary Abdul Rehman is the flagbearer of Healthcare Entrepreneurship and has been a strong advocate of its need in contributing to an economically superior Pakistan.

This course has fructified the medical faculty in its true essence. Superior University’s vision in this breakthrough is to produce more emotionally intelligent entrepreneurs who will be able to run healthcare enterprises successfully.

Healthcare Entrepreneurship’s course has discovered 44 start-ups and transformed skillful individuals with outstanding communication and managerial skills. Students have been indoctrinated with research-driven study to invent better and viable ideas. To heighten the chances of self-employment, Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Center for Entrepreneurship Development (CMACED) is a multi-faceted platform to showcase start-up ideas. Dr. Sumaira Rehman, Rector Superior University and Director CMACED has been wholeheartedly nurturing the need for an entrepreneurial mindset in the University. She believes that only an emotionally intelligent individual with an entrepreneurial mindset could conquer the future and make a difference in the society.

If it’s about revolutionizing education paradigms in its truest form then Superior University has paved the way for educational institutions by introducing entrepreneurship as an essential part of their classrooms. Healthcare entrepreneurship is a unique and constructive way to get students in a habit of recognizing, analyzing and solving problems around them.

Medicine is one of the toughest degrees to get through and the students have a higher level of responsibility thrust upon them from the start. Healthcare practitioners are the pillars of any society but they also need an outlet to nurture their creative energies. Apart from extra-curricular activities, entrepreneurship is a constructive instrument that gives the freedom to be experimental and add to your personal and professional growth simultaneously. Having an entrepreneurial mindset is more than just creating a startup. It is about having a problem solving mindset, better time management and self-management skills, an understanding of learning from failure and knowing how to make the most of any situation.

Azra Naheed Medical College is currently the only medical institution that is championing this opportunity for its students where they have the freedom and support to create viable businesses and harness their scientific and entrepreneurial skills by being a part of Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Center for Entrepreneurship Development (CMACED).

Throughout the Healthcare Entrepreneurship course, every student experiences a life changing entrepreneurial journey where experienced coaches encourage them to think out of the box and leave behind their old ways. Every student goes through managerial and communication coaching where they learn how to sell their idea, negotiate with investors and close a successful deal. Each student begins the journey with an idea and then follows it through to completion with a final presentation in front of the industry giants where they receive real feedback that can help them shape their product further.

The process of this entrepreneurial journey is broken into a few important steps. It starts from idea generation which through a poster competition sees its first round of critics. The prototypes are then put up for display in front of a walking jury that further analyze their progress. The latest edition of the poster competition yielded 44 start-ups which then moved on to a series of Patent and IP workshops.

A cohort of successful start-ups are chosen from each faculty, which are then developed and prepped for the Superior Entrepreneurial Expo; the largest showcase of ideas in the country. Every year the Expo attracts an audience of 20,000+ individuals and is a day full of panel talks, policy dialogues and an industry led panel of judges to screen the 200+ startups that are being showcased.

The ‘Superior Entrepreneurial Safari’ is another outstanding endeavor taken to promote experiential learning and to push students to leave their ‘comfort zones’. The main purpose of this safari is to expose the students to an unfamiliar environment where they have to meet the locals, industries and propose a fruitful solution to an existing problem of the community. This safari is a way to hone the analytical reasoning and entrepreneurial mindsets of students.

Innovation District 92 is a place where ideas become reality. The incubation center helps new start-ups by providing them basic infrastructure; an office space, internet, utilities etc… to help build their businesses. These businesses can then move on to Scale up PK (an accelerator) after defending their progress in front of the board. The next step in this journey is qualifying to appear on Pakistan’s premium business reality show ‘Idea Croron Ka’, a live platform for start-ups to raise investment and showcase their idea in front of the world.

From a course on entrepreneurship to a TV show, Superior University has left no stone unturned to provide its students with possibilities to prove themselves as business and science prodigies and transforming them into ‘Super Heroes’!
